You Gotta Believe in Something Good

Here’s my latest read which got me thinking....

The Technological Republic

Hard Power, Soft Belief and the Future of the West.

Alex C Karp and Nicholas W. Zamiska

lol…sure easy stuff. To me the point Karp is making is to talk about the harm that, in the last 25 years, the limiting belief of Silicon Valley (of which he is was originally a part of) has enabled those many companies to stray away from what makes our sovereign state thrive and continue to grow. That, the walling off of nationalism and contributions to our nations identity of a lot of those organizations did enable them to thrive commercially, but at the cost of diluting the purpose of a whole generation of talent towards strengthening our nation state. They believe that trying to champion the thought and benefits of all, without regard to moral or what could be termed common sense, did hurt the collective fiber of our nation state.

Thinking on this I need to ask myself…

Is it enough to simply call this out? I think not. It’s a call to action.

I believe it is my duty to champion, in my own simple way, this willingness to leave more than I take, for the betterment of my family and take steps to make a small difference in the soul of my country.

Emerson says “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.

I struggled with this for a while. Why not to be happy. But happy is not the finish line. Happy is the byproduct a purpose driven life.

I chose therefore to make a difference. A longer term view.

if….Were I to live say 50 more years then, can I compound the fruits of my efforts in service to long term benefit of others. Let not a day go by when I don’t think about this long term goal. I am a student of the Compound Effect. It is necessary therefore to grow my own mental and physical health and also then to share or at least amplify the voices of others that are in this work to make a difference. Carpe Diem!
